Sion Celtic newsCeltic’s Europa League opponents Sion drew 3-3 away to champions Basel today.

Laurent Roussey team were again denied the use of six summer signings but that didn’t stop them from going ahead three times.

The draw keeps Sion a point ahead of Basel and sitting in third place in the table after four matches.

Almost 28,000 fans were in Basel’s St Jakob Stadium to witness four goals in the opening 25 minutes with Vilmos Vanczák and Dos Santos Adailton Jose on target for the visitors.

Star striker Giovanni Sio looked to have given Sion the points with a goal in the 80th minute but Adison Cabral, a substitute for Alexander Frei, equalised in injury time for Basel.

Next Saturday Sion are at home to second placed Luzern before travelling to Glasgow for the first leg against Celtic.

Anyone from Celtic at this match, Joe ?

I would say their keeper was maybe at fault for 2 of the Basel goals. The 3 goal was a huge mistake but the second goal he looked a bit slow getting across to cover it and probably should have lead with one hand instead of two.

A good keeper might have saved it. As for going forward their main men all played a part. Sio looks a decent player and gets a few shots on target. So far they have played FC Zurich, Young Boys and FC Basel, 3 of the big clubs in their first 4 games and looked the best in all 4 of them despite one loss.

Basle keeper looked a bit suspect with 2 of the goals. Looked like Sion didnt have to work to hard for their goals. If we keep it tight at the back and nobody has the usual rush of blood to the head we should take a 2 goal lead to 2nd leg. What happens over there remains to be seen only the drunk or the foolish would try predict that
