referee Celtic newsBrian Winter has been appointed to referee Sunday’s Celtic v St Johnstone match.

Winter didn’t referee any Celtic matches last season but did hit the headlines last September when he yellow carded St Johnstone’s Steven Anderson twice without sending the defender off.

Fortunately United won the match 1-0 but neither of Winter’s assistants or the fourth official noticed the mistake with former referee chief Hugh Dallas having to talk the referee out of retirement.

Dallas admitted: “He was very down, as you could imagine, and he cares so much about refereeing that he had to be talked out of walking away from it altogether.

“I am sure this is a blip for Brian and I have tried to reassure him of that.

“What happened was a mistake and an uncommon one at that, but Brian is a very experienced SPL referee and one who has built up the respect of players and managers throughout the league.”

Rangers match at Motherwell will be refereed by Craig Thomson while Euan ‘spot-kick’ Norris will be the fourth official at the Kilmarnock v Hearts match.

With the Motherwell v Rangers match kicking off at 2.15 there will be the rare spectacle of Celtic and Rangers in action at the same time.

These referees should be watched very very closely, at the very least Norris should be sat on the sidelines or banned from officiating the shame.
    Honest mistake anyone.

Sounds like Winter and Dallas know each other on a personal level. Anyone associating with a known corrupt, lying, bigot, unless they have to in a professional capacity. (for example your police officer arresting him/her) is obviously a complete moron at best.

Let’s just hope this guy doesn’t get the opportunity to make “honest mistakes” that influence the match in 1 teams favour!!!!
