Athletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao is looking to repeat last season’s Europa League success with Porto.
The Colombian striker scored 17 goals in last season’s competition, including the winner against Braga in the final before his summer switch to La Liga.
Athletico have failed to score in their first two league matches against Osasuna and Valencia but the €40m striker is looking beyond tomorrow’s Group I opening match against Celtic in the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
Falcao said: “I have the same ambition as the rest of the team and that’s to reach the final and win it. We must be careful, knowing that it is a long competition and we must take things step by step, but my dream is to go to Monaco to play the Super Cup, I never did in my career.
Fraser Forster will be given the task of keeping Athletico at bay with the on loan keeper hoping for a repeat of Saturday’s clean sheet against Motherwell.
“If we can show the form we showed on Saturday I think we will show teams what we are all about,” the keeper claimed.
“It was a fantastic performance, we took our chances and were very clinical.
“I think we were showing what we can do as a team and what we showed consistently last season.
“We have great depth and quality in the squad and if we can play like that tomorrow night it should be a good game.
“It is a great opportunity for the lads to test ourselves on a bigger stage but we want to show how well we can play.”
