Jackson Irvine Celtic news Celtic’s Next Gen Series team make the journey along London Road today to face Dundee United at Barrowfield, kick off 1pm.

John Kennedy’s side enjoyed their high profile match with Barcelona on Wednesday night but are back to basics today against United.

Despite dominating most of the second half at Aberdeen last week the young hoops dropped two points when Conor Devany equalised with a wonder goal from 30 yards out.

The celebrations around the ground for that goal had to be seen to be believed with high fives the order of the day after the match between the Aberdeen players and management.

Jackson Irvine was dismayed by the draw and will use the celebrations to motivate his team-mates before today’s clash with Dundee United.

“I think that as a team we played our best football of the season up at Aberdeen,” the midfielder claimed. “I thought that we were absolutely exceptional, we created 13 or 14 great chances and in the last few minutes I had the ball in the net with a header that was disallowed.

“They scored a wonder strike from 30 yards that no one can do anything about and you could see what it meant to them. That’s what it means to clubs in Scotland to get a result against us because they know the ability that we have.

“We need to remember that feeling and put our chances away against Dundee United.”

Irvine has taken on the captaincy from Matty Hughes and after a frustrating start to his Celtic career is loving the way this season is shaping up.

Manchester City are Celtic’s next opponents in the Next Gen Series with the Melbourne bhoy looking forward to a Scotland v England clash.

He added: “The two games against Manchester City are going to be vital, we’ve did well recently in games against Premiership teams.

“We beat Liverpool 3-0 last season and 1-0 up at Lennoxtown, we beat Wigan last season and won down at Sunderland in pre-season.

“The Manchester City matches are games that we really need to take points from.

“This time last year I was in crutches so things have changed for the better. I was lucky enough to be involved in the title run in and the cup final at the end of the season.

“I’ve managed to hold my place in the side and I’m captaining the 19s this season, it’s all been fantastic and I’m loving it but at this club as well as developing you have to be winning matches and we’re ll aware of the expectations.”
