Who will captain Celtic tonight against Rennes? Charlie Mulgrew or Biram Kayal?
Amongst the many aspects discussed after the bizarre afternoon at Kilmarnock the issue of the captaincy seemed to slip into the background.
This season, in the absence of Scott Brown, Kayal has worn the armband but at Rugby Park it was Mulgrew who captained the side, as he had at Hearts in the previous game while Kayal was injured.
Adding a further complication to the issue Kayal signed a new contract on Monday which may, or may not, involve the captaincy issue in the continuing absence of Brown.

Up until last month’s defeat at Ibrox it would have been difficult to find any Celtic supporter who would say a word against Kayal- over the last month things have changed significantly with his reckless performance at Kilmarnock which ended with him being substituted at half time leading to a number of supporters questioning his attitude.
The contract issue obviously played a part in the changing status of Kayal with supporters who’ve witnessed various players proclaim their devotion to the club shortly before departing.
After signing his new four year deal the Israeli internationalist said: “It was the manager who wanted me here and I want to achieve things for him, the club and all our supporters.
“I feel at home here and I want to be at the club for a long time. The fans have been magnificent and I want to thank them all for their support.
“I will do everything for the club and the manager to achieve success.”
There are more important issues to be faced than who wears the armband against Rennes but whether Kayal or Mulgrew leads the side out will provide a good indicator on Neil Lennon’s thinking.
