Stephen O'Donnell Celtic newsFormer Celtic defender Stephen O’Donnell made the most of his first start for Partick Thistle by finding the net in their 5-0 win over Morton last night.

The experiment of Friday night football went down well at Firhill as the Jags enjoyed their best win of the season.

O’Donnell was freed at the end of last season despite missing only one match for Celtic’s double winning youth side and has already made a big impression on Jackie McNamara.

The Thistle boss told the club website: “I was delighted with the performance of Stephen O’Donnell in his first start for the club. I spoke after the Livingston game about his athleticism and he again displayed that tonight.

“He also displayed tremendous desire, had a great change of pace and delivered some great passes.

“Overall I’m absolutely delighted with that performance. I did think that at times we could have passed the ball a little better than we did but the desire that the players showed was absolutely first class.”

Having matched his Celtic goal scoring tally SOD’s will be looking to go one better next week and take his Thistle tally to two when McNamara’s side visit Raith Rovers.
