Celtic’s match with Hearts today is On after the Tynecastle pitch passed a 10.30am inspection but referee Craig Thomson will continue to monitor conditions right up until kick-off time.
Constant rain in Edinburgh from mid afternoon yesterday put the match in doubt with Hearts not using any covers to protect the pitch.
A 10am pitch inspection was called with the decision put back to 10.30am with referee Thomson clearly concerned by the state of the pitch.
“I’m happy for it to continue at this stage, we’ll have another final check nearer to the time,” Thomson told Sky Sports News. “Hearts are working on a few areas but I’m happy for the game to go ahead.”
Sky television pictures clearly showed that the ball was unable to bounce freely but despite the obvious evidence the decision to give the game the go ahead wasn’t taken until less than two hours from kick-off time.
In April Celtic found their trip to Inverness Caley Thistle called off three hours before kick -off with 99% of the Celtic support on their way to the match.
The usual comments can be expected from the football authorities but until they fine clubs that don’t take adequate precautions to ensure that their pitch is playable the situation will continue.
Today’s match is scheduled to kick off at 12.45 and will be shown on Sky Sports 4.

The midlithuanians should be fined for this incompetence, and should have been heavily fined for their negligence re the scandalous attack on Neil Lennon, but this being Scotland, the most bigoted little country in the world, it’s never going to happen.
2011??…and this is still allowed to happen….??
Absolute feckin’ disgrace….
Celtic need to do something OFFICIAL about these “situations” with Hearts…
We are far too easy going when it comes to these kind of things..
Grow a pair Celtic….
