Iain Brines referee newsPaolo Sergio would love to see Iain Brines face a lie detector.

The Hearts boss is still furious after his side had a ‘goal’ disallowed by Brines during the League Cup defeat by Ayr United.

Brines will be the fourth official tomorrow when Hearts travel to Dunfermline with the Jambos boss openly questioning his integrity.

Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov has brought in lie detectors for his players with Sergio happy to extend their use to officials.

“For some particular matters, maybe it could be a good thing to introduce in football,” Sergio explained. “I can tell you what I have in my head, but I don’t want to.”

Asked if he was prompted by Brines appointment against Dunfermline Sergio added: “Now you understand what I have in my head before.

“I’m not happy with that. He told me the linesman said to him it was an elbow. Now he is saying he saw the elbow. I’m not happy and I am honest. I don’t see why I should hide my feelings.

“I’m not happy to have him at Hearts games. Believe me, you can bring the lie detectors to me.”

It remains to be seen if George Peat is brought into the discussion or whether Kenny Clark and Stuart Dougal embark on a media roadshow to defend the honesty and integrity of their trusted former colleague.

Last month Steven Naismith was given a retrospective two match ban after Brines failed to see the Rangers midfielder deliberately elbow Dunfermline’s Austin McCann in the face.

Doesnt he know thats its not lying / cheating? Its honest mistaking & any evidence that he finds to suggest otherwise is merely paranoia 🙂

What a great idea, only the introduction of lie detectors would lead down the road of having no referees left. Brines is a police officer I believe so he certainly won’t have a problem with this. Honesty and Scottish football never thought I’d see the day.

The Ibrox faithful could be surveyed to suggest the best company and equipment to use because they’ve all used been through the process so many times on the Jeremy Kyle show.
