Darren O'Dea Ireland newsDarren O’Dea helped Leeds to move within a point of a play-off place thanks to their 3-0 win over Doncaster on Friday night.

After a slow start to the season and being totally outclassed by Manchester United in the Carling Cup manager Simon Grayson was delighted by his side’s display in the Yorkshire derby.

“It was a very good performance, very professional,” he said. “There were a lot of good things, the work rate, we pressed well and made them make mistakes.

“It wasn’t far off the complete performance. We moved it round and caused them problems.”

O’Dea was the only one out of four loan Celts to feature in the Championship over the weekend with Jos Hooiveld, Daryl Murphy and Josh Thompson all missing out. Thompson was on the bench for Peterbrough’s 2-1 win at Bristol City but has yet to play for Darren Ferguson’s side.

Down a division Niall McGinn was unable to break the stalemate with Brentford held at home by Scunthorpe.

Closer to home Richie Towell’s Hibs were beaten 1-0 at home by Motherwell with Greig Spence helping Hamilton to a 2-0 win away to Morton.

In Turkey Morten Rasmussen was left frustrated as Sivasspor were held to a 0-0 draw by second bottom Gaziantepspor while Efrain Juarez will be in action this afternoon when Real Zaragoza host Real Sociedad.

Turning the clock back a little Marc Crosas helped Volga to a goal-less draw away to Krylya Sovetov with Volga stuck in the bottom half of the table. Aiden McGeady’s Spartak Moscow travel to play Rubin Kazan this afternoon.

Celtic’s Europa League opponents Stade Rennes play Lorient tonight with Rennes sitting in seventh place with 15 points from 9 matches.

Big Darren shouldn’t have been loaned out in the first place. When your struggling in defence you don’t loan out central defenders.
