Rogne faces England test

|

Thomas Rogne Celtic newsThomas Rogne will find himself playing against Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain tonight as Norway host England in an u-21 qualifier in Drammen.

Both teams go into the match with full points from their opening two matches with Rogne playing for Norway in their wins over Iceland, where he scored, and away to Azerbijan last week.

Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a hat-trick for England in their 3-0 win away to Iceland on Thursday and also became the youngest Englishman to score in the Champions League when he netted against Panathinaikos.

Looking ahead to the match England coach Stuart Pearce said: “They’ve won both of their games on the road so far in the group so arguably they can say they are the best in the group. But we know that if we can get a good result here it’ll put us in a strong position.

“It’s very unforgiving, this group, and they are on home soil and will want to win it to back up two victories on the road. It’s a tough game for us.”

England beat Norway 2-0 at Southampton in July and have Jack Rodwell, Jordan Henderson, Josh McEacheran and Henri Lansbury in their squad for tonight’s match.

Closer to home Hearts moved a point clear of Celtic in the u-19 league with a 3-2 win over Hibs. Hearts have won 14 of their last 15 matches at this level with their only defeat coming at home to Celtic last month.

In the Next Gen Series Manchester City lost 3-0 away to Olympique Marseilles with Celtic travelling to meet the Premiership side on October 17.
