Paul George Celtic newsCeltic’s Paul George came off the bench to rescue Ireland’s European Championship hopes against Russia.

Ireland’s u-19 side were trailing 1-0 at half time and facing elimination after beating Bulgaria but losing their second match to Bosnia.

George replaced Graham Burke five minutes into the second half and brought Ireland level in the 63rd minute.

Two minutes later Ireland took the lead through George Smith with the Russians reduced to ten men when Alexsandr Manyukov received his second yellow card.

The Russians were reduced to nine men in the 77th minute when Denis Kutin received a straight red card with Tony Forde sealing Ireland’s win and qualification alongside Bosnia with a third goal in the 79th minute.

RESULTS: Bulgaria 1-4 Ireland, Bosnia 2-0 Ireland, Ireland 3-1 Russia.
