How much do the bookies love Martin O’Neill?
With the axe hanging over Steve Bruce at Sunderland the former Celtic boss is favourite to take over at the Stadium of Light- just as he was earlier this year at West Ham and Leicester.
Without saying a word in public O’Neill is the 9/2 favourite to become the next Sunderland manager ahead of Mark Hughes and Alan Curbishley.
Throughout his time at Celtic O’Neill was linked with various jobs, and picked up a few pay-offs from newspapers jumping the gun, as he was linked to jobs at Manchester United, Leeds United and most frequently at Spurs and Liverpool.
O’Neill has been out of football since August 2010 when he re-signed after three years as manager of Aston Villa and has kept a low profile since then.
With the sacking season about to begin in the Premiership with former Celts Stevie Kean and Mick McCarthy under threat the only certainty is that O’Neill is likely to become the bookies favourite for the vacancy as soon as the first P45 is issued.
