Lennon waiting on two for Dundee United match

|

Gary Hooper Celtic newsNeil Lennon will check on the fitness of Gary Hooper and James Forrest before naming his side to face Dundee United.

Hooper picked up a thigh strain in the 3-0 win over Dunfermline on January 2 while Forrest missed the win over Peterhead due to a virus.

The return to fitness of Emilio Izaguirre and Kelvin Wilson has boosted the numbers available to Lennon but with three trophies to be played for the hoops boss doesn’t want to take any chances with injury.

“James is still feeling the effect of a virus,” Lennon told Celtic tv yesterday. “We’ll have to look and see how he is over the next couple of days, we hope Gary will train tomorrow but we’ll have to wait and see on that.

“Joe Ledley should be ok to train today, he should be in contention for the weekend, the rest of the squad was relatively unscathed.”

Celtic have already beaten Dundee United twice this season but Lennon won’t be taking anything for granted against tomorrow’s visitors.

“This is a game that we have to win against a team on a good run,” he added. “We don’t want all of our good work to die out. Dundee United are a very dangerous team and had a good win at the weekend.

“Peter Houston’s teams seem to come on pretty strong in the second half of the season. I think that they will end up in the top six.

“They have a good core of players even though they sold the majority of his better players in the last 18 months. It’s a game that we have to be very wary of.”
