Hamburg hit back to beat Celtic

Hamburg recovered from being a goal down to beat Celtic 2-1 in the Mercedes BenzCup tonight.

A third minute goal from Callum McGregor looked likely to give John Kennedy’s side full points but two goals in the last four minutes ended Celtic’s hopes of progressing in the tournament.

Celtic play their final match at approximately 6.30pm (Celtic Park time) against Freiburg.

With Lazio and Freiburg both sitting on four points Celtic will only have pride to play for with the top two sides in Group B going forward to tomorrow’s semi-finals.

In their opening match Celtic had lost 2-1 to Lazio with Darnell Fisher scoring for the hoops.

Bahrudin Atajic missed a good chance in the first minute with the Italians handing out a lesson in finishing with two goals in the middle of the match either side of Joe Chalmers clearing a shot off the line.

With four minutes left to play Fisher netted after good work by Lewis Kidd down the right flank although Celtic were unable to force a winner.

The Celtic squad consists of Robbie Thomson, Joe Chalmers, Jackson Irvine, Lewis Kidd, Patrik Twardzik, Darnell Fisher, Callum McGregor, Michael Miller, Denny Johnstone, Bahrudin Atajic,Tony Watt and James Alabi.
