Celtic youth team newsCeltic’s u-19 side look like getting back into action tomorrow with a trip to McKenna Park, home of St Anthony’s, to face St Mirren scheduled for 12 noon.

John Kennedy’s side haven’t played a league match since losing 2-1 to Hearts on November 27 although they did beat Dunfermline in the SFA Youth Cup just before Christmas.

Celtic are currently sitting in third place in the table but have four games in hand over Hearts as they attempt to overcome a 13 point gap.

St Mirren’s last match was on December 2 when they beat Dunfermline 2-0 at home.

Despite the lengthy break the Celtic kids have been kept busy thanks to the Mercedes-Benz Cup six-a-side event at the turn of year in Germany with most players also featuring in last week’s development side defeat away to Spurs.

With another development team match arranged tomorrow against Leeds United Kennedy won’t be able to pick his strongest side but that has rarely been the case this season.

When Celtic won 2-1 away to St Johnstone in November they went into the match without Marcus Fraser, Dylan McGeough, Callum McGregor and Filip Twardzik who were all in the first team squad at Inverness.

Those promotions gave other players their chance to shine with Joey O’Brien coming in to play in central defence while the extended winter break will have allowed Curtis Jones and Stuart Findlay to fully recover from injury.

After tomorrow’s match Celtic have back-to-back home matches scheduled against Hibs and Inverness Caley Thistle on February 4 and 7 before their SFA Youth Cup quarter final away to Aberdeen on Sunday February 12.
