Paddy McCourt Celtic newsCeltic duo Paddy McCourt and Niall McGinn have been included in the Northern Ireland squad to face Holland in Amsterdam on June 2.

The match will act as a send off for the Dutch squad on route to the European Championships and is sure to provide the Irish with a tough test.

McGinn is out of contract at Celtic after a season on loan at Brentford while the future of McCourt is again up for debate after a season on the fringes of the Celtic squad despite his cult status with the fans. Former Celt Danny Lafferty of Burnley is also in the squad.

Rangers duo Steve Davis and Kyle Lafferty are both missing through injury but Hibs on-loan defender James McPake has been brought into the squad for the first time.

The Bellshill born defender made a big impact while on loan at Hibs and qualifies to play for Northern Ireland through his grand-parents.

Irish boss Michael O’Neill explained: “James has a lot of attributes that can be very useful for us. He’s versatile, can play anywhere across the back and he’s been on the fringes of the Scottish squad.

“This is a good opportunity for us and a good opportunity for him. His agent notified me of his eligibility and we followed it up quickly, so this has all happened in the last couple of weeks.

“I spend a lot of time researching the available players because we need as many as possible. I have spoken to a number of others and some haven’t made that decision or aren’t willing to change their allegiance at the moment but we will continue to monitor and strengthen.”
