Paul Clark Rangers newsRangers have vowed to fight on despite having their appeal against a 12 month transfer embargo upheld by a panel chaired by Lord Carloway.

The findings of the SFA appeal acknowledged that more severe action, such as expulsion from the SFA, would have been justified but leniency was applied on the original judgement.

Rangers were in the dock for a number of breaches of rules including the non-payment of Income Tax and National Insurance during the current season as well as the failings of directors to act or report on those issues.

Reacting to tonight’s news Paul Clark of Duff and Phelps said: “The decision by the appellate tribunal to uphold the sanction, namely the suspension of registration of players for one year, is not competent in the view of the club and its legal advisers.

“Such a sanction was not available to the tribunal and should not have been imposed and it is the intention of the club to challenge the determination.

“The club will consider seeking review of this most disappointing decision and it is a matter of regret that the certainty and finality Rangers sought on this matter has not been achieved.

“Everyone at Rangers is bitterly disappointed and dismayed at this outcome.”

Rangers preferred bidder Charles Green said: “Our group went into the purchase of the club with this sanction in place but we hoped the decision would at least be commuted.

“We fully support the club as it considers an appeal against this latest decision.”

Ibrox favourite Sandy Jardine added: “Rangers supporters will be shocked and bitterly disappointed by this decision and will find it hard to take that the club has been so heavily punished for the actions of individuals.”

I believe they are actually correct the Committee did NOT have the power to place such a sanction on the club…so cancel it. Instead they will be left with having to take the ultimate sanction and expel Rangers FC (In Administration) from the league entirely……what a bunch of whingers, they are getting off lightly and STILL complain.

Everyone knows they will fold and start a new club free of any such sanction, but almost certainly in the 3rd Division. Just trying to hold on, delay things until the transfer window opens on June 1st so they can sell some players and then liquidate while trying to pan off creditors with a pennies in the pound repayment plan.

Stand up and admit some responsibility, EBT scam was nothing to do with Crook Whyte….the entire club should face up and accept ANY punishment coming their way.

I cant believe the way the rats are whinging.I think they got off very leniently. They should be expelled from the league for atleast three years.

  • Joe McHugh says:

    You are right Willie.

If Rangers really want to push it as far as possible maybe the SFA will be forced to suspend or withdraw their membership.

It would be some conspiracy if that was what Rangers were looking for…

  • Hevghirl says:

The panel did have it in their power to apply any sanction it so wished. According to Rules 94 and 95:

Rule 94.1 refers to the powers of the judicial panel, stating it “shall be the sole judge” when a club “in any way brings the game into disrepute or any other grounds it considers sufficient”.

Rule 95 refer to sanctions, “A… club… if found to have infringed the articles shall be liable to censure or to a fine or to a suspension or to an expulsion from the Challenge Cup [Scottish Cup] Competition, to any combination of these penalties or such other penalty, condition or sanction as the Judicial Panel considers appropriate, including such other sanctions as are contained within the Judicial Panel Protocol, in order to deal justly with the case in question.”

They can apply whatever sanction they wish and for whatever reason they want. I refer anyone to this excellent article on the the STV website from a few weeks ago outlining why they were correct in they did have the power to apply the punishments they have: http://www.sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/rangers/304757-why-the-sfa-havent-breached-their-rules-in-banning-rangers-from-signing-players/

  • Greenjedi says:

So the muppets are saying the sentence wasn’t one of those that were available to the panel?

Thats fine, they were trying to be nice, but if you insist we’ll just expel you from football then!

    MORONS!!!

  • Steveo says:

Any sanction could be imposed so long as it did not exceed the maximum sanction which was expulsion from the SFA. This clearly does not exceed that punishment so is justified.

What I would point out is back in 1995 Fergus & Celtic were fined £100,000 for tapping up the bold TB from Killie. 18 years on and their total fines are £160.000 doesn’t really compare to our punishment back then given the passage of time.

    Liquidation here they come!!!
