Rogne misses England match

|

Thomas Rogne newsThomas Rogne will miss Norway’s friendly against England on Saturday due to injury.

The Celtic defender was named in the 22 man squad for Saturday’s friendly but won;t be considered for selection by coach Egil Olsen.

Norway have another friendly on June 2 against Croatia with the Norwegians hopeful that Rogne will be available for that match.

Rogne has captained Norway at u-21 level and is likely to feature in the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign where Norway have been drawn alongside Iceland, Switzerland, Albania, Slovenia and Cyprus.

Norway finished their Euro 2012 campaign level on points with Portugal but lost out on a play-off place based on the head-to-head results with Denmark topping the group.

Meanwhile Mikael Lustig is hoping to prove himself in Sweden’s friendlies against Iceland, 30 May, and Serbia 5 June.

Despite failing to break into the Celtic squad due to the form of Adam Matthews Lustig’s place in Sweden’s Euro 2012 squad was never in doubt after he played in every minute of the qualifying campaign.

Sweden beat group winners Holland in the final qualifier and made their way to the finals as the best placed group runners-up.

Erik Hamren’s side open their Group D campaign against joint hosts Ukraine on June 11 before facing England four days later and France on June 19.

The other direct Celtic interest in Euro 2012 is in Group A where Georgios Samaras is the main striker for Greece.

Like Sweden the Greeks open up against the joint hosts, Poland on June 8 before playing the Czech Republic and Russia.
