David Murray Rangers newsThe Daily Record has finally turned on former Rangers owner David Murray.

After over 20 years highlighting the spectacular achievements of the Edinburgh based businessman the Record has published a highly critical interview with former Rangers chairman Al Johnston.

Murray’s role in the demise of Rangers is expected to be exposed in a BBC documentary tonight titled: Rangers- The Men Who Sold the Jerseys.

At the peak of Murray’s powers, celebrating his tenth anniversary as Rangers chairman the Record used the succulent lamb phrase that now attracts such derision.

With the Record turning on him Murray has few allies left with most Rangers fans highly critical of his stewardship of the club.

“Chairmen and chief executives are often the subject of fans’ ire for selling players, or allowing guys to leave because of unaffordable wage demands and so on,” Johnston told the Record. “ On the the other hand, you take Sir David Murray.

“He got too immersed in the fans’ perception of himself – as well as his own ego and invincibility, probably.

In the last few years he lost his business discipline, then panicked when he saw Armageddon coming.”

Murray’s legacy to Rangers was the sale of the club to Craig Whyte for £1 with the former Ibrox owner claiming that he was duped into the deal.

Johnston disagrees stating: “I pointed out to the banker that I felt David Murray may not want to sell.

“The reply, and this is a very key statement, was, ‘Alastair, David Murray is heavily incentivised to get rid of Rangers Football Club. Let me leave it at that.’

“I understood that to mean that certain things would then be triggered in his £700million relationship between Murray Group and the bank.”

Detailing a dossier that was built up on Whyte Johnston added: “It was made available to us and I did see it, like I saw a lot of other information and data that was presented to us or leaked.

“But all that information was shared with the Murray Group, because there wasn’t much we could do about it other than jump up and down and scream and shout, which is what we did.

“In terms of something to do about it – that is, not consummate the
transaction for these reasons – then David Murray really looks like the
only person who could actually have done something.”

“There were a lot of inconsistencies in Whyte’s personal profile – where he lived, who he was registered with, anonymous addresses and so on.

“Liberty Capital, the ultimate guarantor of his so-called arrangement with Rangers, was formed out of a warehouse in industrial Miami where nobody had ever heard of him or the company.

“So we had a lot of due diligence and checked up on him, but that information was fed to the Murray group.”

Hahahahahaha. The rats are jumping from the sinking ship. Took them a while. Drowning, not waving, is a phrase that springs to mind.

Think you might be confused with one of your secret meetings around then, Mr. Johnston. You know, the ones with the goats and tickly hands. Who are you kidding that you could not get this stuff into the public domain. Succulent lamb goes very stale if a good juicy chop is put in its place. Yes, as my friend says, there is the panic of self preservation on a sinking ship somewhere on the south side of the Clyde.

You could have resigned and then went public with your views on the new owner…yet chose to stay and say NOTHING. Trying to re-write history now does not save you and other directors from being part of the reason your club will soon disappear.

Until we actually have this aired, i can’t see the truth being allowed out for public consumption!!! I truly believe that the show will be farcical and will not reveal what we all hope it does. You have to remember that this is still the establishment club. It is akin to the “mysterious” death of Princess Diana!

I honestly thought he was being given ‘mafia style’ protection from the media & those in power. Those fans from Ibrokes seem to have hit out at EVERYONE except Murray who we all know is the biggest culprit. It will be interesting to see how things play out.

This is going to be very messy. they will turn on each other as self-preservation mode is reached. there will be some sensational stories and none of them will survive with their reputations in tact. Liars, cheats and thieves. We will see john greig’s statue torn down the shame will run so deep and reach so far.

I predict along with rangers going under, Whyte will be the next to file bankruptcy. Hopefully the show tonight in the U.K. is on you tube.

Hope there is an investigation into the ?french guy (boom…) something’s transfer from rangers to Newcastle when souness was Newcastle manager. My brother who is a fan of Newcastle queried it at the time. He was a diddly and rangers were paid 8-10 million for him, a massive profit.
