The BBC pundits that received Rangers EBT’s

|

BBC Scotland Rangers newsAmong the list of individuals to have benefited from the Rangers EBT scheme there were two names very familiar to the BBC.

Steven Thompson and Billy Dodds are among the small army of pundits paid for their opinions by the state broadcaster.

Dodds has been a regular on television and radio over the years and can often be found covering three matches a week for the BBC. Last weekend he covered the Hearts v Hibs Scottish Cup Final on the Saturday followed by the Airdrie United v Dumbarton match the following day.

Thompson is a newer name to the world of punditary regularly covering matches for the BBC alongside his playing commitments with St Mirren.

Having experienced administration at Dundee and being forced to accept a fraction of his assistant manager contract from a CVA Dodds has been able to provide a useful insight into the mechanics and ramifications of being in administration.

One question relating to Rangers has never been asked of either player? Did they receive payments into an EBT?

The Employee Benefit Trust phrase has become widely known to Scottish football fans over the last 12 months with BBC Sport spending many hours debating the problems facing Rangers and threatening their survival.

Crucial to the issue is the EBT matter or the Big Tax Case as it’s known.

Whatever Craig Whyte, Duff and Phelps or Charlie Green try to do for Rangers the shadow of the big tax case threatens to scupper any hopes they have for the club.

What better way to cut to the core of the matter than to ask Dodds or Thompson whether they had received payments through an EBT?

With two former players from the period under question on board the BBC Scotland missed the chance to gain first hand knowledge of the main problem hanging over Rangers.

According to last night’s ‘Rangers: The Men Who Sold The Jerseys’ programme Dodds had £190,000 paid into his EBT with Thompson receiving £485,000.

Sky Sports pundit Neil McCann received £500,000 into an EBT according to last night’s programme.

Strip them of all honors from the (sad) Murray yrs and bring on the Newco germs. I don’t want to see them thrown out the spl coz I couldn’t handle 3 yrs minimum without pumpin the hun$, seriously. However they should be punished accordingly whilst being kept in the top flight (imo) HH

Somethings never change: on the BBC news this morning they talked about how the ragers fans need to know about the Duff and Phelps conflict of interest (Who are those guys ?)

But no mention of the at least 20 years of them cheating. 13 tainted trophies ?

  • williebhoy says:

They can run or walk away but they cannot HIDE from the FACTS….CHEATING for decades.

Ogilivie aware of the scheme, but not aware who was being paid…It doesn’t matter who, he KNEW it was wrong, he KNEW they payments were not being reported to the SFA..he is corrupt as is Alastair Johnston, another who was fully aware and did nothing / said nothing….corrupt to the core.

Dodds denied any knowledge of EBTs – see celtic research timeline last night on twitter for link to radio extract.

Dodds has been asked a number of times on Sportsound if he had an EBT and he always said he didn’t and he had no knowledge the scheme when he was at Rangers, now turns out infact he got £190,000 from the fund.

How many times has Dodds been in conversations about EBT’s & r#ngers administration????

Why should we license fee payers pay for a now proven LIAR???

Every time i mention the ‘Evil Empire’ i make sure i always add the word TAINTED. The hoards of bigots that follow them go on about this seasons SPL as tainted when THEY have cheated for such a long time.

I would never buy the S@# newspaper but looking it up online earlier today i see ONE story about this despite it being one of the biggest stories in Scottish football history (maybe changed from then)

What is this case of an EBT at Celtic. It says it was for Juninho. Can anyone clarify.

  • Mharkopolo says:

the EBT for juninio was fine. the tax was paid on it and there were no secret secondary contracts. the use of an EBT is completely legal for a football club, but the MISUSE of it is illegal. the fact that this has come out is probably just to give the raging idiots in the south of the city something to be up in arms at…

  • thomas cochrane says:
