Motherwell will back sporting integrity in newco vote

|

SPL Celtic news Motherwell have dropped a strong hint that they’ll only support a newco entering the SPL if sporting sanctions are applied on account of the original club breaking the rules.

The SPL is due to vote on Wednesday about new financial fair play regulations that will have a major impact on the future of Rangers.

Although the troubled Ibrox club have yet to offer a CVA the formation of a newco is looking more and more likely if they are to be in action as a club next season.

The argument has boiled down to the case for sporting integrity (football sanctions) or commercial matters (a Sky Sports deal at any price) with Motherwell leaning towards the sporting integrity side favoured by Hibs and St Johnstone. Motherwell went into administration in 2002 and are now hoping to set up a membership scheme that will ensure a broad cross-section of ownership.

Tonight’s statement from Fir Park said: “We are well progressed with a plan that is designed to bring both fan ownership and long term financial stability to the club, without reliance on funding from either a bank or a benefactor.

We do not believe we can separate the sporting integrity of our league from the sustainable future of our club; the two go hand in hand. Any decisions we take as a Board are made in the best interests of the club with a view to achieving our stated aims for ownership and funding.

In the event that a “Newco” proposal is presented to us, we intend to fully discuss with representatives of our supporters groups, prior to making any decision.”

Does not matter which team you support or what you do in life, sporting integrity should be upermost over financial consideration.

I have never come across so many holy willies.
How many fans of all clubs do jobs on the side and do
    not declare on tax returns.

People in glass houses etc, etc. Whyte and Murray were wrong
but what about all the decent rangers fans who spend a
    fortune following their team.

It must be great to be a person who has lived their live based
    on integrity.

Have you no hearts it might be your club soon.

    • The Hurricane says:

Katie, you go on about decent Rangers fans who follow THEIR team, What about the decent fans who follow THEIR Law Abiding Teams? As for your integrity Comment! IT IS GREAT!

    • Ciaran says:

“Holy Willies”!!! Paying your bills does not make you a Holy Willie.

Living your life “based on integrity”, is normal isn’t it??

      Obviously not for you.

  • JoeG says:

There is no way Motherwell will take the sporting route! They have laid down to rangers for the past two seasons. They have too much at stake to bomb them out!

  • neil says:

What about the decent fans of other clubs who thought scottish football was played on an even keel Catherine.
For all we take in live we must pay and Rangers took the p***.
    Good riddance

  • catherine cameron says:

don’t get personal Ciaran. You lose arguments that
    way.

    • GerryDocherty says:

Catherine, Ciaran is not being personal he is stating fact. Rangers (in administration) have systematically cheated the whole of Scottish football for up to 20 years, have u not been reading the papers or watching the telly for the last 3 months.

The ignorance and head in the sand culture of your fans beggars belief sometimes. Take your punishment. Do the crime, do your time

    • Neil says:

      Catherine,
Your the one who got personal by calling “everyone” holly willies!, I read your argument, but your best of back on follow follow if you cannot be more balanced.
What other Club in the UK has conducted themselves in the manner Rangers have? Cheating, Fraud and deliberate avoidance in paying tax. How many lives would that have saved if put back into the public domain????
