|

Celtic youth newsScotland should have a very definite advantage when they meet Manchester City tonight in the opening match of the Den Haag Cup.

Coach Ricky Sbragia can call on the Celtic back four that beat City home and away in the Next Gen Series.

Stuart Findlay’s late call up re-unites him with Mikey Miller, Marcus Fraser and Joe Chalmers who helped Celtic to a 4-2 win away from home before beating the Premiership side 2-0 at Celtic Park.

Findlay has been called up alongwith Lewis Kidd and Jamie Lindsay with all three players featuring in Tuesday’s testimonial match against Norwich City.

The weekend tournament will finally bring to an end a long demanding season of success for the Celtic kids with their final engagements taking in Hong Kong, Norwich and Den Haag.

As well as the back four and u-17 contingent John Herron, Callum McGregor and Tony Watt will be away on international duty with Cruzerio of Brazil and Den Haag making up the four team section.

Scotland open up against Manchester City on Friday night before facing the other sides on Saturday to determine who they will meet on Sunday with the top two sides from the group going into the semi-finals with the top two in Group B which consists of Club Brugge and Borussia Mönchengladbach and the national teams of Mexico and Kazakhstan.

Also included in the squad is Belgian born midfielder Alexander Bell who plays for Mechelen and is uncapped at international level.

While I hope they do well, in all honesty I’d much rather they were all now relaxing on a beach somewhere.

I see little to be enthusiastic about a post season tourney, the National managers had all season to check out players / formations etc..so why should the players have to keep playing longer due to their inability to utilise regular season fixtures properly.

Hope they all return injury free and can then enjoy a decent break before the real serious stuff starts again soon.
