Paul Lambert Norwich newsCeltic’s trip to Norwich on Tuesday looks like turning into a very emotional occasion for the home fans.

The testimonial for Adam Drury should have served as a welcome celebration of a return to the Premiership earning a comfortable 12th place well clear of the relegation dogfight.

Paul Lambert and Grant Holt have contributed more than most to the success of Norwich with the unfashionable club from Norfolk enjoying three outstanding seasons led by the former Celtic skipper.

Since finishing the season with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa Norwich fans have barely had a moment to celebrate their success and bask in the relative glory of their achievements.

Within 24 hours of the final whistle going against Villa Alex McLeish had been sacked with Lambert strongly linked with a move to the midlands.

Villa’s highly publicised move for former Manchester United striker Ole Gunar Solksjaer to replace McLeish must have brought a sigh of relief for Norwich fans but that quickly ended when Holt slapped in a transfer request on Friday.

With a vacancy also arising at Liverpool former Celtic midfielder Lambert is featuring heavily in the bookies lists for the Villa Park and Anfield vacancies.

Swansea’s Brendan Rodgers quickly distanced himself from speculation of a move to Liverpool but the silence of Lambert is causing concern at Carrow Road.

Villa’s interest in Solksjaer seems to have cooled with Molde reacting angrily at attempts to lure their manager to the Premiership.

There are some reports down south that Lambert wishes to speak to Villa but equally there are suggestions that his mentor, Martin O’Neill has warned him away from the club.

With nothing concrete emerging from the rumours, Tuesday night’s visit from Celtic is unlikely to be remembered as a celebration of Drury’s days at the club.

The nightmare scenario of Lambert and Holt waving good-bye is dominating thoughts around the club after three seasons that the fans could barely have hoped for.
