Steven Naismith newsSteven Naismith has snubbed Ally McCoist’s plea for loyalty and announced that he’s walking away from Sevco.

McCoist issued an angry warning yesterday about players looking for excuses to quit the Ibrox club following news that Rhys McCabe and Sone Aluko had informed Charlie Green that they wouldn’t be transferring their contracts.

News of Naismith’s decision to leave will be a hammer blow for the prospects of the newclub with the former Kilmarnock striker issuing a statement through his representative Simon Catto explaining his decision.

While McCoist overlooked the fact that Rangers are in liquidation Naismith highlights the legislation amongst the reasons why he’ll be playing elsewhere next season.

“As players we were put in a difficult position by the administrators whereby we were asked to take a 75% pay cut to contracts that we entered into in good faith,” the 25-year-old stated.

“As players we collectively saw this as the only way to get Rangers Football Club out of administration by way of a CVA and thereby protect the staff jobs and the history of the club and give the creditors who had also entered into contracts with Rangers in good faith the best chance of being paid.

“Both Steven (Whittaker) and I and our agent fought hard with administrators during negotiations to insert clauses that offered protection to staff and players at the club.

“I am extremely proud of the actions we took but I am disappointed and angry that Rangers Football Club no longer exists in its original form.”

Naismith added: “I would like to thank the fans for all their backing. Everyone knows I am a life-long Rangers supporter and so I share in the disappointment and anger of what has happened to the great Rangers Football Club.

“I hope that a successful new Rangers can emerge and wish everyone connected with the new club, including Mr Green and his consortium, the very best for the future.”

  • I have no wish to proffer sympathy in any form but I do think that what these players are doing has more to do with fiscal logic and personal and family survival than ‘walking away’.

This, I fear is something that Mr. (sweet talking) McCoist and Mr. (let’s try to fool them all) Green failed to recognise. The condemned is highly unlikely to embrace the executioner, especially as the axe is about to fall.

  • Tully says:

Well fat Sally did say yesterday that the players had to ask themselves if they wanted to play for sevco or not so he got his answer then and more will follow follow over the coming days 🙂

  • dombhoy67 says:

Let’s be clear here, this is not the player’s ‘walking away’ they have been deserted by their club…it’s their club that has done ‘walking away’ and left them in a ha’penny place.

As for poor pathetic and deluded McCoist his job, as has always been his job, is to act as if nothing has changed so that the great unwashed will buy into the illusion that old dead Ranger’s still exists. Well, that big risk is not paying off as no one, least of all the player’s, seems to be taking the bait.

I always had a feeling that one day the proverbial would hit the fan and it’s now doing just that.

Careful folk’s this stuff will fly everywhere especially if the M.S.M. have anything to do with it. . .they rake it for a living.

There are lots of rumours that Mcoist didn’t even take a pay cut when all of the players had. I wonder if any journalist will ask him.
