Champions League Celtic newsHelsingborgs Champions League hopes have been dealt a blow with striker Alfred Finnbogason on the brink of a 500,000 move to Heerenveen.

Finnbogason has been on loan from Lokern scoring 12 times from 14 starts and 3 substitute appearances including a goal away from home against Slask Wroklaw.

Earlier today Helsingborgs director Paul Myllenberg said: “We’ve said our bit and the ball is in Lokeren’s court, but from there it’s quiet”.

Helsingborgs have had an option to sign Finnbogason but Lokern have accepted the deal from Heerenveen after growing tired of delays at the Swedish end.

Last Saturday Finnbogason scored twice in the 7-2 win over Kalmar but that looks certain to be his farewell appearance for the club.

Helsingborgs are currently in fifth place in the table and travel to face leaders Elfsborg on Saturday.

Celtic and Helsingborgs have named their 25 man squads for the match but can add one signing until midnight the day before the match is played.

The first leg will be played at Helsingbogs 9,000 capacity Olympic Stadium with the club inundated with ticket requests.

Looking forward to returning to Sweden Celtic defender Mikael Lustig said: “It feels like we are the favourites. We are the better team and the only thing that speaks in favour of Helsingborgs is that they are in the middle of their season and we have just started ours.

“Most people in Scotland and at Celtic are counting on us to go through. It is a great draw for us.

“We could have been given a draw against a team from Israel or from Romania and these are teams that you do not know anything about whereas with Scandinavia and Helsingborgs, we know exactly what we have got.”

For 500,000, cud we not hand them bangura back in exchange….. boy seems worth a punt…
The name Finbogasson is familiar……. anyone know what happened to the 2 icelandic players that were at celtic 4 years ago or so..?

    • Raymy says:

      Bangura came from AIK.

One of the Icelandic youths ended up going to morton but only for a short time. I think the other went to \Scandinavia. Hazy. I can’t be bothered googling, but Finnbogasson is familiar and one of them i’m sure had that surname. Most of them are descended from about 3000 viking invaders so theres every chance the name was the same

The two Icelandic bhoys we had were teddy bjarnsson and [mumble some Scandinavian type first names] finbogasson. Couldn’t tell you how they’re doing nowadays though.

  • Peter says:

    Heerenven bought him for double=10milion€
Could be trouble for Lokeren thou many says that Helsingborg had first buyoption on Finnbogason after loan.
As a Helsingborg supporter i see that the odds is for Celtic favour now. 70-30 with Finnbogason 50-50 Good Luck mates!
