Scott McDonald Australia newsScott McDonald never found it difficult to find the net playing for Celtic.

The Australian forward took the move from Motherwell to Celtic in his stride with a predatory strike against Spartak Moscow opening his hoops account before he went on to find the net against AC Milan and Manchester United.

Derby matches also brought out the best in the Melbourne bhoy with some memorable strikes against Rangers including his final goal in hoops minutes after being brought on as a substitute by Tony Mowbray.

At international level however he’s drawn a blank. In twenty-five appearances he’s yet to find the net but remains a regular in the Australian squad.

McDonald returns to familiar territory tomorrow night when Australia face Scotland at Easter Road with the former Celtic striker desperate to end his international drought.

“Every time I come into a camp now, that’s all I ever get asked,” he admitted. “It’s nothing different, no new added pressure.

“It’s been disappointing not to have scored for my country up until now, especially when you’re looked upon to do that. It would be no better time for me to do it.

“I’m not getting any younger either, perhaps my chances of playing for my national team are few and far between. You have to make the most of it when it comes up.

“It’s hard to put my finger on why it’s not happened at this level. I’ve scored in the Champions League, I’ve had no problem scoring at that sort of level, why should I have a problem doing it for my country?

“People talk about it being 25 games, I would argue that how many of them did I actually play in? Did I start the game?

“I’m just delighted to be back in the squad and I’ll try to take my opportunity. There is a huge World Cup qualifying campaign that has started for us and hopefully I can be a part of that.”
