Green warns Lord Nimmo Smith

Charles Green has warned Lord Nimmo Smith that he is walking into complete madness despite boycotting the SPL’s investigation into Rangers use of EBT’s.

With the chief executive’s of the SFA and SPL afraid to speak out about the issue Green knows that his comments are going unchallenged.

On Saturday The Sun uncovered a ‘top secret’ first draft of the five way deal put together to retain Rangers’ SFA membership.

That deal would have conveniently buried the EBT issue with honours removed from the 2000-2011 period.

An agreement was finally reached less than 48 hours before Sevco were due to play Brechin in the Ramsdens Cup with tickets, hospitality and television coverage already agreed for that match.

Two years after being informed by HMRC about the use of EBT’s the SPL have reluctantly decided to investigate the matter with their credibility compromised by awarding Rangers a Champions League qualifying place AFTER they had been informed about the use of EBT’s.

All payments to footballers have to be declared in contracts lodged with the SFA and SPL with Lord Nimmo Smith investigating the evidence that for over a decade Rangers fielded players whose full payments weren’t revealed.

Three days after uncovering the first draft deal Green told The Sun: “We have never questioned the integrity of this panel but I’m starting to feel sorry for them because they don’t know what they are getting themselves into.

“They are learned, they have international reputations and everyone knows their areas of expertise but they are being drawn into something that is complete madness.

“If Lord Nimmo Smith can do me a favour, I would like him to get everybody in Scotland to agree whether we are newco or oldco.

“It changes every week to suit someone else’s agenda, so long as it doesn’t suit Rangers’ agenda.”

Green has played the newco/oldco game to his advantage at every turn most recently spending money on signing David Templeton from Hearts while ignoring oldco creditors including Rapid Vienna, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Lucrative long term contracts have been issued to Lee Wallace, Dean Shiels, Francisco Sandaza and Ian Black while dozens of businesses across Glasgow are left with worthless invoices.

While ignoring those issues and claiming the history of the club that remains in administration awaiting liquidation from BDO Green wishes to claim money paid to the SFA for international appearances made by Rangers players.

The whole issue should have been cleared up when the SFA issued Sevco with membership but in keeping with tradition the deal was shrouded in mystery leaving the SFA on the backfoot.

“There is no relationship with the SPL and the SFA,” Green explained. “I’m chief executive of Rangers and have obligations to deal with the SFA.

“As far as the SPL is concerned, I have no regard or respect for them. The SFA will be the appeal body in the event that I don’t agree with what Lord Nimmo Smith’s panel say.

“Yet it appears the SFA have the completely contrary view on some issues. I am owed £330,000 by UEFA and the SFA have refused to hand it over because they are saying I’m not entitled to it.

“It is money due to Rangers for releasing players to play for their countries. Maybe this is another case of Charles Green being stupid. Or is this now a case of ‘Well, it doesn’t suit us’.

“It seems we can have the pain but not the gain.”

Another day of cowering silence is expected from the SFA and SPL.
