Craig Whyte RangersCraig Whyte has revealed that the SPL were told that Rangers were heading for liquidation four months before he put the club into administration.

Despite the warning the SPL took no action as the Ibrox club continued to use players that they couldn’t afford to pay through to the end of the season.

Dunfermline chairman John Yorkson has been an outspoken critic of the way that the SPL handled the Rangers crisis with Whyte’s revelations putting Neil Doncaster’s future on the line.

During an interview in which he described the club as a financial basketcase Whyte said: “In October (2011), I met Neil Doncaster and Ralph Topping (former SPL chairman) in London, told them administration was almost inevitable.

“I told them that exit by a CVA (creditors agreement) is unlikely and that we would need a lot of support to get through a really tough situation.

“They obviously didn’t want to lose Rangers from the SPL and they were supportive. It was a positive meeting.”

Whyte was later hit with a £200,000 SFA fine and ban but has no intention of paying up.

I said at the time there’s no chance of paying,” he stated. “They haven’t written to me officially, they haven’t asked for any money – but I’ve made it very clear that I will never pay the SFA £200,000.

“They’ve (the SFA) made Scottish football the laughing stock of the world. As far as the SFA and the SPL is concerned, what other country in the world would deal with one of their biggest clubs in the way that they have, and demote them to the Third Division.

“There’s still investigations going on apparently. They’re a laughing stock as far as I’m concerned.”
