Charlie Mulgrew newsCharlie Mulgrew never doubted Celtic’s ability to progress in the Champions League.

With seven points from four matches the hoops are in the Group G driving seat as they travel to Lisbon for tomorrow’s clash with Benfica.

It’s win or bust for the home side but after sharing the points with Barca over two enthralling matches Mulgrew is confident of pulling off another incredible result.

“We always had belief, even when the Champions League draw was made, that we could qualify from the group,” he stated. “We haven’t done anything yet, we’re not in the next round but we’re in a good position.

“Benfica have to win so it will be our most difficult game in the group. Their last game is away to Barca so it will be a tough ask for them to win there.

“They’re going to have to beat us so that makes it their biggest game and we have to prepared for that and rise to the challenge.

“It was a great result against Barcelona but we want to qualify and that’s our main aim. If we don’t we’d be disappointed because we’re in such a strong position.”

Scotland’s Player of the Year added: “We knew it would be tough and we’d need a bit of luck. We’ve had that but there’s still work to be done.

“We can’t just say because we beat Barcelona that we can take anyone on. It’s going to be tough against Benfica.

“People will expect us just to beat Benfica now but it’s not as easy as that. There’s an expectation you must deal with at this club so we must be prepared for that.”
