John Kennedy Celtic newsCeltic’s youth side fly out to Holland today to complete a hectic week of action against PSV Eindhoven in the Next Gen Series.

Both teams will be hoping that Sporting Lisbon beat Aston Villa meaning that a win at the Philips Stadium will put either side through.

Following their 2-1 defeat to Sporting last week Celtic went through 120 minutes of cup action against Hibs on Sunday with coach John Kennedy employing the gently gently approach before tomorrow’s match.

“We don’t have a lot of time to recover from the Hibs match but it’s part and parcel of being a big club,” the hoops coach explained.

“It’s demanding going from European ties to domestic and back again but we’ll prepare the best we can and need an important win.

“Hopefully the adrenaline of possibly qualifying for the next phase will take over, if they are feeling tired that thought should take over.

“We’ll try to recover as much as possible but the Hibs match was very demanding.

“We lost a couple of sloppy goals which made it difficult for ourselves but the boys dug in. Going into extra-time we pushed on and probably deserved to go through.”

Celtic were twice in front against Hibs before getting pegged back by the Edinburgh side but made their way into the last eight thanks to a goal from Denny Johnstone two minutes from the end of extra-time.

Kennedy added: “Denny has got good legs and a bit of pace and we thought that he could get in behind Hibs in extra-time.

“His link up play was excellent, he had a great shot before his goal then finished the game. That’s what it’s about as a substitute, he showed a great attitude and was probably disappointed not to play.”

I’d say if we can pull a result off in Eindhoven it will rate as our best yet at this level.

Nothing to fear though, so give it a real go Bhoys. I’d rather lose the game trying to win than defending and hoping to get lucky.
