Paul Lambert Norwich newsPaul Lambert couldn’t hide his delight after Saturday’s 3-1 win away to Liverpool.

The Villa boss hasn’t had his troubles to seek since replacing Alex McLeish in the close season but has shown an unshakable belief in the young players emerging at the club.

Following the midweek Capital Cup win away to Norwich Lambert was delighted with the way that his players followed that up by turning Liverpool over.

“I think the whole performance was fabulous,” the former Celtic skipper stated. “The goals were excellent as was the way we defended.

“I thought we were excellent. The goals were brilliant: the second goal, with the movement and the backheel, especially.

“Christian Benteke has been unbelievable while Andy Weimann knows where the goal is, he’s a natural finisher and his enthusiasm and work ethic are second to none.

“The back three were terrific and put their bodies on the line when they had to. I am pretty sure Liverpool will give anyone a game here. It is just about trying to hold your nerve and trying to see it through, which is what we have done.”

Lambert added: “We feel when we are on song we are a good side. I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing them perform the way they do and they are getting better and better every game.

“I’ve always said if you don’t give someone an opportunity how do you know? The lads have taken to it: Ashley Westwood has been at Crewe and you wouldn’t think Matthew Lowton had come from Sheffield United.”
