Kris Commons injuryKris Commons watched the final drama of Celtic’s Champions League win over Spartak Moscow with the club’s medical staff as they surveyed his gruesome injury.

Swedish international Kim Kallstrom was shown a straight red card for the violent attack on the Celtic hero with Commons turning to twitter to reveal the extent of the damage.

At first glance it appears like a small cut but closer examination shows a massive swelling in the midfielders left thigh.

Twelve months ago Commons was at the centre of every rumour in and around Glasgow with his Celtic days over as far as most people were concerned.

After netting the most valuable penalty in the clubs history the joy of reaching the last 16 of the Champions League was acting as a very effective painkiller.

He tweeted: “Now that’s a dead leg!!! Worth it though to get in last 16. Buzzin is a understatement.”

Neil Lennon explained: “It was real sore one. He got a stud in his upper thigh, a lot of swelling, so he’s in a bit of discomfort at the minute. I doubt whether he will be fit for the weekend.

“At first, I thought it might have medial ligament damage, but it’s actually soft tissue in the thigh area. It was quite a heavy blow.”

Scott Brown had been expected to undergo surgery on his hip condition but Lennon believes that could be cancelled.

He’s talking about putting the surgery off,” Lennon revealed. “But we will assess that over the next couple of weeks.

“We don’t want him to go for the surgery but, if it’s a necessity, we’ll have to look at it.

“He has felt very good for the last week – 10 days and we’ve sort of drip fed him into games but that’s not ideal, so we’ll discuss it again.

“I don’t want to force him into anything he doesn’t want to do, but the medical team will take care of it.”

Best time for Brown to get his surgery, before it becomes a requirement. We should be more than capable of playing domestically without him and he will come back fresh & fit for the important stages.

Shocking tackle, deserving a straight red…thought Kris had a very good game, good awareness…hope he gets fit again soon

Arguebly the best signing niel has ever made is kris commons. The guile and craft we have so missed since Moravcic left,is injected into the team when commons is played. The ultimate pro,He never shirks responsibility to the team and club, and I was praying that he was given the job of taking the penalty against the russians .He links up play superbly and the slide rule passes are a sublime skill that I am sure hooper loves. The accuracy of his thunderbolt shooting is another strength.
