Image for Wilson: Beating Barca and not qualifying would be pointless

Kelvin Wilson Celtic newsKelvin Wilson can’t bare to think of failing to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

The former Nottingham Forest defender has been one of Celtic’s most consistent performers this season and has looked at home in the Champions League.

Beating Barcelona will remain a career highlight for all of the Celtic players but it’ll be a bittersweet moment if the clubs’ interest in the Champions League ends on Wednesday night.

“Obviously you don’t want to win a game like that and drop out,” Wilson said. “It would be pretty pointless.

“Getting that win put us in a position to qualify so we want to see it through. I just know it was a very special night for us all.

“Everything about it was incredible. Everything seemed to come together for the 125th anniversary and even the Barca players seemed to find it all a bit unreal. It was a great night.

“Two of my best mates came to that game, one an Arsenal season-ticket holder and one a Man United fan. They said they’d never seen anything like it.”

Looking to Wednesday Wilson added: “We’ve got a massive game against Spartak now and it’s going to be a great atmosphere. We’ll go into it with confidence.

“I’ve enjoyed the Champions League. It’s been a bit overwhelming but like the rest of the lads I’ve just got on with it.

“Spartak are in a bit of a crisis but we won’t take the game lightly, they have some top players.”

  • Chris says:

Hes right, if we dont progress then beating barca will be labelled as a ‘1 off’ instead of the brilliant achievement that it was so the players
have to be prepared to put in the hardest graft so far this season to ensure we do what we can to get to the last 16, theres no game where an early goal appreciated more so cmon lads
