Juve boss Conte blames referee for dropped points

|

Juventus newsJuventus boss Antonio Conte hit out at referee Marco Guida after watching his side draw 1-1 at home to lowly Genoa. Amon other comments he claimed that Guida should hand back his refereeing licence.

The draw means that Juve have won just one of their four Serie A matches since the turn of the year giving Napoli the chance to cut their lead at the top of the table down to three points of they can win at Parma today.

Conte’s comments add to the sence of suspicion that has hung over Italian football since the unravelling Calciopoli scandal that saw Juventus relegated and stripped of titles for involvement in refereeing appointments.

Juventus appeared to be denied two decent penalty claims with those decisions and the clubs indifferent form beginning to effect Conte.

He said: “The referee should take some responsibility. Even a blind man would have seen that (handball by Andreas Granqvist in the box).

“In these cases, you’ve got to hand back your refereeing licence. I cannot tolerate what happened. Even the goal-line referee said it was a penalty. I think in these cases, saying ‘shame on you’ is the very least one can do.

“I can accept it if they claim not to have seen the incident, but hearing a referee say they didn’t feel like giving the penalty is not normal.

“For a long time, we’ve been well-mannered and valued fair play, but now I have seen too many incidents go against us. Parma once said that everyone was entitled to complain except Juventus. Now the incidents are there for all to see.

“Now I’d rather not hear the media breaking our balls over pro-Juve and anti-Juve errors, because errors are everywhere for and against everyone.”

Juventus took the lead in the 54th minute through Fabio Quagliarella but third from bottom Genoa equalised 14 minutes later through former Juventus striker Mario Borriello.
