Juventus move for former Premiership striker

|

Juventus newsJuventus are poised to sign Nicolas Anelka on a short term deal from Chinese side Shenhua Shanghai.

The 33-year-old moved to China a year ago after falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge under Andre Villas-Boas.

Anelka has had a controversial career with Juventus set to become his tenth club with a CV that includes Arsenal, Real Madrid, PSG, Feberbache and Liverpool. At one stage his brothers even attempted a take over of Raith Rovers!

Juventus had been heavily linked with Didier Drogba as they look for additional firepower to retain Serie A and find a way past Fraser Forster in the Champions League.

Despite beating Udinese 4-0 at the weekend Juve boss Antonio Conte has been concerned by his side’s slow start to the year with just one win from four league matches.

News of the move for Anelka emerged this afternoon in France with talks at an advanced stage between the players representatives and the Chinese football authorities.

The move for the ageing French striker hasn’t gone down well with Juventus fans who’ve been spoiled for strikers down the years with Zlatan Ibrahimovic the most recent superstar to wear the number 9 jersey.

During the close season veteran Alessandro Del Pierro quit Juventus for Australia with Andre Pirlo taking on the role of playmaker.

It’s likely that a nominal fee will be paid to Shenhua Shanghai for a player who has been transferred for over £60m following his move from PSG to Arsenal as a teenager.
