Gary Hooper kept up his impressive form with a double against Dundee United on Tuesday night as Celtic stretched their lead at the top of the SPL to twelve points.
The in-demand striker was at his devastating best scoring the first and third goals of the night demonstrating the benefits of the winter break.
Both goals were spectacular in their own right with the first finishing off a pacy counter-attack involving Lassad Nouioui and Georgios Samaras while the third- a cheeky back-healer- was the touch of a striker full of confidence.
With his agents clearly ensuing that their client remains as high profile as possible the former Scunthorpe striker is doing his bit on the park with his all round game developing on a weekly basis without eroding his goal threat.
On the public debate over Hooper the Celtic boss added: “Norwich came in with an improved offer, if you can call it that. It was rejected immediately.
“In terms of his contract, that has been on the table since October and there has been no improvement on that offer but we feel it is a very good offer. But we respect Gary and his representatives’ decision on that.
“That may change, we hope it does but I am pretty confident that on the 1st of February Gary will be a Celtic player which is what we all want. I think in the last eight weeks he has improved his game no end and not just with goals.”
Hooper’s double against Dundee United takes his tally for the season to 21 with eight of those goals coming in his last seven appearances.
