Ambrose faces Juventus!

Neil Lennon news

Efe Ambrose is a shock starter in the Celtic side to face Juventus.

Just over 48 hours after playing for Nigeria in the final of the African Nations Cup the defender is back in the Celtic side having arrived at Glasgow Airport this morning.

Ambrose will resume his partnership with Kelvin Wilson in central defence with Georgios Samaras failing a late fitness test.

James Forrest makes his first start of the year with Emilio Izaguirre also returning from injury.

Looking ahead at tonight’s match Lennon said: “We have given the fans something to believe again, something to dream about.

“That’s been missing for a long time. So we have given them something to hold on to. I’m sure most of them do it in jest.

“At the bottom of their hearts, they probably don’t really believe we will get to Wembley but they can dream about it now. We have given them that opportunity, which is fantastic.

“We are a million miles away from it. Even at the semi-final stage, you are a million miles away from it but we are in the last 16, it’s fantastic and we want to go further. Can we do it? Well, we will have to see on the night.”

The hoops boss added: “To qualify was the best thing I’ve done in a managerial sense, to get out of the group with ten points. We might never get this opportunity again.

“I don’t want people thinking this is going to be an annual thing, because it’s a very difficult thing to do. We have to maximise our opportunities.

“We might never get here again. Gordon Strachan did it two years in a row here.

“It was almost as if it was going to be a foregone conclusion every year but it’s such a difficult ride to get here. We have to make the most of it now. We have to enjoy these moments and we have to enjoy these nights.

Bad idea. He’s at best two yds off the pace. With Juve u can’t do allow that freedom to hit space. Lustig seems to be struggling to place a pass but will hopefully come good. Good pressure though and hopefully we’ll do it in second half

Lost the game in the dressing room, bad decision making to change OUR style to combat Juve’s who just played their normal game.

Ambrose is a good player but ridiculous to ask him to travel such distance and play in such high pressure games so close together.

Playing both Commons & Forrest also cancelled out any aerial danger we might have caused them. One OR other but certainly not both.

Full marks to all the players for effort but badly lacked guile / awareness.

Lessons to be learned for sure.

neil lennon made the mistake tonight by playing ambrose, played in a massive final on sunday, 48 hours after playng he plays here in a massive game, between a time change, flying thousands of miles, everyone could see he shouldnt have been there, caused 2 goals, missed a sitter and played him for 90 mins, no other manager on the history of celtic would get away with this

  • Bad move he is not Celtic class Sorry not a top class footballer
