Ferguson gives Lennon lessons in losing

|

Neil Lennon newsNeil Lennon has revealed that Alex Ferguson gave him lessons in losing!

The relationship between the two bosses has grown over the last year with a mutual respect developing.

As a young manager Ferguson’s temper was notorious but over the years he has reigned that in although it has far from disappeared.

A number of former players, referees, linesmen and journalists will testify to the power of Ferguson’s temper but the Manchester United boss now has his temper largely under control.

While the standard portrayal of Lennon remains snarling and angry a larger audience have discovered the thoughtful tactician plotting his way through the Champions League against far wealthier and more experienced opponents.

Ferguson visit to Lennoxtown earlier this year has already been well documented and is likely to be recounted often as the career of the Celtic boss is charted.

“Sir Alex came to see me last summer.” Lennon explained. “ We’d talked for months, then after a while I asked if I could come to see his side training.

“He told me: ‘You know what, our training centre is under construction so I’ll come to you.’ So on a Sunday morning he came here.

“We mainly talked about management — how to coach a great club, how to handle the pressure, the expectations and the players but I think what I really wanted to know is how to handle disappointment.

“When you lose, you stew on it for three days. You wonder if you chose the right team, the right tactics, what went wrong.

“You tear out your hair. I was really bad with it. I did not speak to anyone for days but Alex told me not to dwell on it.

He said to handle it right after the match with the players, then on Monday morning move on. Since then it has been better.”

Anger management lessons from Sir Alex? Wouldn’t Lenny be better off asking Tony Soprano?

Was this before …or after…Lenny’s tirade against
    Murdo MacLeod…?
Like most Celtic men…I’ve no time for MacLeod….
    Taker of the Queen’s shilling….
But I thought Lenny was wrong to react the way he did….
A quiet put-down would have served the purpose just as well.
    Only my opinion…..
