Former Celt has his contract terminated

Cha Du Ri Celtic news

Cha Du-Ri has had his contract terminated by Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The South Korean internationalist signed a two year contract with Dusseldorf last summer following a two year stint at Celtic.

Cha started just one match for Dusseldorf but made nine appearances as a substitute, mainly in midfield, but failed to settle with his wife and two children moving to Korea.

Dusseldorf twice gave Cha special leave before his contract was  terminated the contract last week.

Cha made 35 starts during his two seasons at Celtic during which he retained his place in the South Korea national team.

Despite playing a significant part in an SPL and Scottish Cup success he is probably best remembered for three reasons during his time at Celtic:

a) Some amazing television adverts

b) An incredible own goal scored for Rennes in the Europa League

c) His smile!

Cha is expected to resume his career in South Korea where he has hero status as a member of the 2002 World Cup squad which reached the semi-finals.

Eight years later he played in the South African World Cup before joining Celtic where he teamed up with Ki Sung-Yeung.

In his first season at Celtic he shared the right-back berth with Mark Wilson and competed with Adam Matthews last term.

Following the own goal in Rennes Neil Lennon said: “The two guys involved showed great character. Cha had a great second half and Forster made some wonderful saves.

“Away from home, no matter who you are, you need your goalkeeper to make some good saves at crucial moments and he did that for us tonight having come out in the second half probably feeling as low as he can get.”

He was utter mince. Something akin to Ambrose.

oh come one shugg, ambrose is a good defender. sure he made a mistake by declaring himself fit for the juve game but there should have been a thorough fitness test, lennon had too much trust in him.but aye cha did not live up to the hype

He’s got the first touch of a kerb and couldn’t trap a bag of sand. Tries to walk the ball out of defence like he’s Beckenbaur and usually get’s mugged. Gets caught out of position so many times i’ve stopped counting. If people want to learn their trade go to some first division club somewhere and learn it there. Running around like a drunk wearing flip flops.

Cha was awful really unfair to compare him to efe more like tebily (or bomb scare as he became known!!!)

  • When it comes to Cha, its like this…WHY??

There’s no need to bring in players like him, especially at RB or RWB. If your youth system can’t provide for these positions then there’s something wrong. Thankfully our youth set up is thriving at the moment and lets hope there will be no need to go oversea’s for mediocre talent.

As for Ambrose, I’ve really no idea what some of our fans are going on about. The man plays football – sure he’s made a couple of mistakes but so did Masjtorovic and Loovens and Rogne aww haddies – the list goes on and none of them could spell “pass”.

The lad is 24 and is good enough to play in mid-field (debut) and that’s what we need from our central defense – “Football!”

Wilson and Ambrose for a long time to come will suit me.
