Lennon deals with Commons

|

Neil Lennon Celtic newsNeil Lennon has privately dealt with Kris Commons comments on Efe Ambrose.

Commons broke an unwritten dressing room rule not to criticise a team-mate in public following Celtic’s 3-0 defeat to Juventus.

There was no denying that Ambrose was at fault for two of the Juve goals but having that view aired by a team-mate is out of bounds.

Lennon said: “I have dealt with it internally. There will be no disciplinary action taken.

“Kris said things in the heat of the moment but it shows me he really cares about the club and team.

“He knows he shouldn’t be singling people out. We are a team, a unit. He has learned from that. I’ve dealt with it and we move on. I would imagine Kris has apologised privately.”

Despite the result on Tuesday Lennon insists that he has no regrets about selecting Ambrose.

“If I had my time over again, I would still pick him for the game,” the Celtic boss added.

“No one would have said a word if Efe had scored with the header to equalise, which he should have done.

“That is nothing to do with tiredness or fatigue. It’s just a bad miss. If he made it 1-1, no one would have questioned the selection or say it was madness to play him. That’s the fine lines managers walk on sometimes.

“Efe is alright. He was obviously very apologetic after the game. He made basic errors but it has coincided with his situation.”

  • Commons has a feckin cheek imo.

Ok, Efe’ was to blame for his individual error(s) but kris should be doin better with 1 or 2 of the chances he had as well.

Overall, good performance by the Hoops but missed chances (Commons included) and individual errors lost us the match.

Aw aye and the WWF champion they had in defense!!

The game is done, its history…move on.

Ambrose wasn’t given enough rest 4 the Juve game & should just learn from it & move on!

The more I look at it, the more it appears to me that Efe has been got to while he was away.

It’s only my opinion but has he been influenced by someone to make those mistakes.

I rate Ambrose as a solid defender who has been great since he’s come in and just find it too hard to put his lacklustre performance down to jet lag or the after affect of playing in the African Cup.

I hope I’m wrong but I guess we’ll never know.

Mate a hope your joking with the first line of your post if your not go to the doctors because your not right in the head. He had a nightmare don’t think for a second he sold the game FFS if you can’t have a bad game without shit like that aimed at you it’s time to give up. HH

Paul, you are way out of order.

      • Paul says:

For the life of me I hope I’m wrong but in all my time following Celtic I’ve never seen such a reversal of form as on Tuesday night.

Players have off days for sure but Efe wasn’t himself and today he showed us normal service has resumed so why the basic errors on Tuesday.

Like I say, we’ll never know and the result is consigned to the history books now so onwards and upwards for next years Push for a last 8 place.

Yes your right because if you have been playing well then have a bad game then start playing well you MUST be cheating…. fuckin rocket

You can’t bury your head in the sand like that Neil. You got it horribly wrong, and to say you’d do it again is saying you’d make the same mistake again! Yet here you are telling Kris to learn from his mstake and move on! You can’t have this both ways. You made a terrible decision and we paid the ultimate price. On paper Juve were always going to beat us, but when it came to the game we should have turned the tables upside down, but we didn’t. We won’t learn from this as long as you make statements like “I’d do the same thing again”. Admit it. You got it wrong and that way we really can move on!

There was no mistake in playing Ambrose. He ran around all day wasn’t tired so not having much rest didnt effect him at all imho. He made some basic mistakes (which he does on a regular basis in the SPL but doesn’t get punished for it) but when your up against a team like Juve you will. Ps I would have taken him off at half time ,because he was having a stinker from the first whistle till half time. That could be argued as a mistake from NL. We learn from it and move on……. pps 1-4 in Turin keep the faith =)

Thank God for a sensible response. Well done Hancock, your points are well made.

        • Joe says:

Nonsense. Youwill never fix a problem until you admit you have one! Ask any alcoholic. Until they stand up there and say “my name is xxxxxxxxx, I am an alcoholic” they will never begin recovery. This is no different.

first goal i thought Efe was a bit unlucky as he got a push, the missed header for the chance to score well every player miss chances like that and its only the third goal we lost where he was at total fault but again players do make mistakes.
apart from these instances i thought Efe was solid and played well. At no time did he look tired or out of sorts.
The way i look at it is that before we had Efe in the team our defence was anything but solid and players like Kelvin Wilson were terrible, but with Efe , Wilson now looks a good player and we look solid in defence.
Lennon was right to play him, you always play your best players , sometimes your best players make mistakes but we shouldnt be pointing the finger and blaming them. We win as a team and lose as a team.

  • I feel it was a mistake to play Ambrose in this particular game. he did need more time to recover from from playing for Nigeria on Sunday and the long journey to Glasgow which followed.

Had the referee done his job correctly, we would have been awarded 1 or 2 penalties when the score was 1-0, which could have changed the whole game plus the result.I was pleased by the performance as we dominated them for up to 70 minutes before tiring at the end. But a good learning experience for our young team.

  • paranoidandroid says:

I don’t think Ambrose should have ever been asked to play in that situation. The guy must have been physically and mentally exhausted.

We had plenty of cover for him, and asking the player himself if he’s up to playing or not is the stupidest idea I’ve heard in a long time. Most players would tell a manager they were fit enough to play in a CL game even if they’d just crawled into the dressing room.

I think 99% of managers and fitness coaches would have rested Ambrose. There wasn’t much common sense involved in deciding to play him.

Good to see bobby ive lost my debenture money when rankers went tits up madden had a good day

  • sean says:

Ambrose should never been on the park, South Africa is a hell of a long way from Britian. Anyways a think kris was rite to have a go, ambrose was terrible.

  • Gino says:

Sean and paranoid make the most sense with theire comments. There was plenty of cover and if the ref had did his job I beleive we would be going to Turin with an advantage.
