Robbie Thomson Celtic newsGoalkeeper Robbie Thomson has joined Airdrie United on an emergency 93 day loan.

The 19-year-old made his Diamonds debut yesterday in the 2-2 draw with Hamilton Accies.

Earlier this season Thomson played eight games on loan to Stenhousemuir and was recently on the first team bench for Celtic while Fraser Forster was out injured.

With Lucasz Zaluska and January signing Viktor Noring as back-up to Forster Neil Lennon was happy to let Thomson go out on loan. Another keeper, Glen Daniels is on loan to Partick Thistle, as back-up to Scott Fox, leaving Leo Fasan as the first choice for the u-20 side.

Thomson has been Celtic’s first choice youth team keeper for the last two seasons and was in the Scotland u-21 squad that drew 1-1 with Greece earlier this month.

Tweeting yesterday he said: “Signed for @Airdrie_FC on loan till the end of the season, played today and we were really unlucky not to get the 3 points !”

Confidence is not something that Robbie is short of with his last appearance for Celtic coming in Monday’s 2-1 win away to Dunfermline Athletic.

Yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Hamilton halted a three game losing streak for the Diamonds who face unhill battle to avoid relegation after being promoted at the last minute due to the liquidation of Rangers.

Airdrie United are five points adrift of Dumbarton and Cowdenbeath at the bottom of the First Division having played more games than both of those teams.
