Neil Lennon drops Ledley contract hint

|

Joe Ledley Celtic newsNeil Lennon has suggested that talks to extend Joe Ledley’s contract are about to begin.

The Welshman is one of the highest paid players at Celtic after signing a five year deal after leaving Cardiff City on a free transfer.

Ledley is in the third year of his Celtic deal and been one of the stalwarts of Lennon’s time as he turned around the side he inherited from Tony Mowbray.

Lennon is bracing himself for some summer departures with Gary Hooper and Victor Wanyama likely to be moving on.

Providing Ledley with a new contract would ensure some sort of continuity with the Welshman taking on the captain’s armband with style in the 5-0 win over Dundee- scoring twice in the process.

Ledley was great and deservedly got man of the match,” Lennon sAID. “He is a very important player and proved that over the years.

“He is talking about staying on here and I would like to do that if I could, he is a great player for us.”

After yesterday’s performance Ledley added: “It’s a fantastic result, we’ve been playing like that for the last few weeks.

“I’m happy with my performance, Scott Brown is our captain, he’s injured just now, I’m happy with my performance and glad to be on the scoresheet.

“I’ve been injured a couple of times this season, it’s frustrating as a player but all I want to do is get out and show what I can do.”

  • Deserved MOTM – I thought him and Stokes were outstanding.

Maybe the like’s of Ledley wanting to remain a Celtic player will influence some others that the grass isn’t always greener.

If Wilson can get a call up based on European performances then so can Hooper imo.

I believe Wanyama will leave in the summer for 10+ but I’m hopeful Hooper will sign a new deal, however may still leave.

I just hope they go to top EPL teams – I’d be disappointed if they leave for teams like Norwich.
