George recovery well under way

|

Paul George Celtic newsJohn Kennedy wasn’t getting carried away by Celtic’s 3-1 win over Kilmarnock last week.

Back-to-back wins over Motherwell and Killie have put the young hoops clear at the top of the table but the u-20 side is about more than delivering victories.

Tony Watt, Miku and Dylan McGeough were in the starting XI as Celtic bounced back from going behind to a 15th minute penalty to run out 3-1 winners.

A late injury to goalscorer Paul George put a slight dampener on the night but the talented Irish kid should be available for tomorrow’s trip to Hamilton Accies.

“Paul took a kick late on, we put ice on it and he’s fine,” Kennedy explained. “He’s in the early stages of his recovery and will be fine.

“He’s coming back from a horrific injury and not showed any fear in training or in games. He’s progressing well, fining his fet and scored in our last two matches.

“Paul has got a lot of potential, we’ve got high hopes for him, we want him to continue developing and get back towards the first team again.”

George scored Celtic’s second goal after Watt had equalised with the three top team players substituted before Bahrudin Atajic completed the scoring with a smart lob from Stuart Findlay’s long range pass out of defence.

While the emphasis is always on playing the ball along the deck a little variety was called for to finally kill off the Ayrshire side.

“You can’t just pass the ball along the back all the time,” Kennedy added. “We like to vary it a bit, usually passing through midfield, but at times Kilmarnock held a high line and the long pass was on and it was a great finish from Bahrudin.

“We look for 90 minutes of perfection, it was a good result against a good side but we want more and more from the players.

“It was good to get a few first team players come down and it gave our players the chance to play alongside Miku, Dylan and Tony Watt.

“Sometimes at other clubs first team players can interupt the team but our players fitted in well. Showed a great attitude and that’s what we want.”

Tomorrow’s match at New Douglas Park kicks off at 7pm.
