Lennon thrilled by Forrests scoring return

|

James Forrest Celtic newsNeil Lennon was delighted to see James Forrest on the scoresheet as Celtic beat Raith Rovers 3-0 to advance into the last eight of the Scottish Cup.

Forrest replaced Tony Watt on the hour mark and put the tie beyond the First Division side with the crucial second goal in the 83rd minute.

Lennon has guided Forrest through from the development squad into the Champions League and is looking forward to seeing how the youngster fares against Juventus.

“James is a wonderful player and he makes us better,” the Celtic boss said. “He’s been dieing to get back into the team, in his last three appearances he’s scored two goals.

“In each appearance he’s been marvellous, he’s worked really hard in training and you can see what a great player he is.

“He has got so much ahead of him, he’s a throwback to the players that we like, those in the tradition of the club like Johnstone and Provan. Jamesy gets people off their seats.”

Looking overall at the win over Raith the Celtic boss said: “We had to play a little bit more direct because the pitch was soft and cutting up, that made it difficult to play through midfield.

“We had to be patient, I thought that we controlled the game. We dominated the first half without being brilliant in the final third. We felt that once we got the first goal the game would open up and that’s what happened.”
