Top of the table clash at Tannadice

James Forrest news

Celtic’s u-20 side travel to Tannadice for a top-of-the-table clash with Dundee United tonight, kick-off 7pm.

Earlier in the season Celtic beat United 3-2 with two late goals from the visitors putting a kinder reflection on the match.

The last time a Celtic youth side played at Tannadice they won an epic cup tie 5-4 after being 4-1 down with James Forrest, Filip Twardzik and Greig Spence among the scorers.

Stevie Frail remembers that match clearly but goes into tonight’s clash with an entirely new squad of players looking to extend their ten point advantage.

“That cup tie was a turning point that season, it’s a good memory but it’s entirely new circumstances this time,” the hoops coach said.

“It was as dramatic a match as I’ve ever been involved in. We were 3-1 down at half-time and told them that the next goal was vital. United got it but we ended up 5-4 winners and that was a fantastic achievement.

“We’re all looking forward to this match, United are second in the league and will want to cut that gap. They’ll be buoyed by a derby win last week but we’re going into it with a bit of form which should make for a good game.

“We’re looking to get players a route into the first team and the manager has been first class with us. We have a team that has a good spirit and from that the aim is to produce players ready to step up and take their chance in the first team.”

Best wishes to all involved, I’m sure both teams will be giving it their all. But hope we can reproduce our recent good form and extend our lead at the top of the table.

Worked hard all season, mostly using a younger side than anyone else. On the home straight now so bring the title home Bhoys….where it belongs.
