Wanyama plans an upset

|

Celtic 2 1 BarcelonaVictor Wanyama is anticipating a World Cup upset when he lines up for Kenya against Nigeria on Saturday.

With home advantage the newly crowned African champions are strong favourites to continue on the path to Brazil.

Kenya- known as the Harambee Stars- have failed to make any impact on the international game but that doesn’t put off the Celtic star as he returns to national service.

“The players are ready, there is a lot of mental strength among them and we are hopeful of a favourable result against Nigeria,” Wanyama said.

“Everything is possible in football and Kenya can win in Nigeria — it is time the Harambee Stars moved forward in international football.”

Wanyama hasn’t played for Celtic since being injured in the Champions League clash away to Juventus.

After his performances in the Champions League he is one of the leading contenders in the various player-of-the-year awards.

Team-mate Kelvin Wilson is another likely contender with the defender admitting that his second season at Celtic has been a complete contrast to his troubles last season.

Wilson said: “I had my issues in my last season at Nottingham Forest, I wasn’t training or playing, and then at Celtic I’ve had injuries or not been able to get into the team because they have been doing well.

“But this season has been a good run for me and I’m enjoying it. When you enjoy it, it makes it easy, but if you’re happy with personal things, it’s 10 times easier and that’s how it’s been this year.

“I think winning the league this season would mean even more to me than last year. Things weren’t right on a personal note so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I could have.

“A lot of things have been right this year – not perfect, but right – so I’ve got on with my football and I think it’s shown.”
