Point satisfies coach

Steve Frail Celtic newsYouth coach Stevie Frail was satisfied by the point Celtic took from Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Aberdeen.

Bahrudin Atajic gave Celtic the lead shortly before half-time but a late strike from substitute David O’Sullivan levelled the scores.

The draw leaves Celtic 13 points clear of Aberdeen and Dundee United, who both have two games in hand, with the hoops chasing their fourth title in a row at youth level.

While the results have been pleasing since the turn of the year Frail and the coaching staff have been striving for better performances.

“Aberdeen made it difficult for us,” Frail admitted. “There was a lot of skill in the goal from Paddy’s run, John Herron’s back-heeler and Bahrudin’s composure to side foot the ball into the net.

“We never lost the game, the point suits us more than Aberdeen but we could have taken more from the match.

“This level is a lot tougher than previous years, it’s much harder and that’s good for the players.

“We’re allowed over-age players. It’s not just about developing players, Paddy McCourt and Rami Gershon got game time, it’s good for the manager that they are getting meaningful game time.”

At the other end of the age scale Eoghan O’Connell put in another impressive 90 minutes in central defence with Frail pleased by the progress of the young Irishman.

“There’s a composure about his play,” the hoops coach noted. “He did well for us away to Hearts earlier in the season, he’s doing well and it’s important that he gets the chance to push on and develop.”

On Tuesday Celtic face Inverness Caley Thistle at the Tulloch Stadium with a 2pm kick off.
