Kenny Shiels has hit back at Neil Lennon’s light hearted David Brent comments.
The man who can’t get Celtic out of his thoughts was stung by Lennon’s comments despite his side languishing in the bottom half of the SPL.
Shiels described Celtic as Paranoid FC which Lennon slapped down in style while comparing the Kilmarnock manager to the David Brent character portrayed by Ricky Gervais in the popular tv show The Office.
Responding to that Shiels said: “I like Neil and I have nothing against him. I am an avid supporter of him.
“It was a joke about Paranoid FC, but it seems I’ve hit a nerve. I’ve praised Celtic an awful lot this season but if people haven’t got a sense of humour, I can’t give them one.
“I worry Neil thinks I have got something against Celtic- that’s not the case. They are the best team in Scotland. I’m probably jealous of Neil. He is managing a fantastic club.
“He shouldn’t get annoyed at someone as insignificant as Mr Trent.
“I am proud of Celtic and there is the Northern Ireland connection with the club through the likes of Martin O’Neill and Neil. Being from there, I hold them in high esteem.
“Celtic have really good players and Kris Commons and Gary Hooper would probably have been in my four.”
Following Celtic’s match at Motherwell on Sunday Lennon claimed: “Kenny has always had plenty to say about our club.
“He likes to ramble on in little monologues, he is a bit like David Brent sometimes. He is an unconscious comedian.
“Nothing surprises me from Kenny. He has had a couple of barbed comments about my team and the club over the last couple of years so he must have a personal agenda, I don’t know, you would need to ask him about that.”

I believe that Kenny Shiels does not have an agenda against Neil or our club.
He is one of the good guys as far as I am concerned. The paranoid comment was unfair and unwise in my view however Kenny was the only manager to come out and support Neil during his bombs bullets death threats ordeal. The silence from the rest of the SPL coaches was deafening.
Where we needed a really strong sincere condemnation from the The Rangers (il) management at the time, Kenny was the guy who stood up for Lenny. He can joke away as much as he likes as far as I am concerned. The man has my respect.
I would have thought Shields had enough on his plate after getting booed off by his own supporters recently.
The problem with Shields is he likes the sound of his own voice,he needs to be ignored comparing him to Brent is disrespectful to Brent.
I agree that this is an excellent final comment on the matter. Sheils has tried to put this too bed. So should we. HH.
Kenny you are such a pleb, Lennon doesn’t want compliments or opinions from you because you are tediously boring, now go away and start preparing for your relegation battle next season.
I know a big fat slob of an Ulsterman who likes to call Catholics ‘Fenian bastards’, when he does it, which is just about all the time, he does it with a smile on his face and if he’s dug up for it, out comes the standard, ‘oh, it’s just a bit of craic’ or , ach, catch onto yersel it’s only a joke’.
The irony, although totally lost on him, is he’s just about one of the most unfunniest feckers on the planet. He has absolutely no patter whatsoever and wit wise, he’s as slow as rainy week-end in a Rothsay caravan.
