Glenn Daniels Celtic news

Former Celtic goalkeeper Glenn Daniels is on trial with Belgian side Genk.

The 19-year-old spent two seasons with Celtic as back up to Robbie Thomson and Leo Fasan after joining the club from Birmingham City.

Daniels spent the second part of last season on loan to Partick Thistle where another former Celt, Scott Fox, was the first choice keeper.

At Firhill Daniels made one first team appearance, against Dumbarton in the final match of the season where Thistle drew 0-0.

A possible move to Genk would be a return home for the Belgian keeper after three seasons in the UK with Birmingham and Celtic.

Viktor Noring joined Celtic from Trellborgs FF when Daniels moved to Thistle but is now back in Sweden after Celtic declined to offer an extended contract.

Daniels former team-mates are back in action next Saturday (July 6) when they travel north to face Inverness Clachnacuddin under the banner of Celtic Development XI.

The squad is likely to be very youthful with the first team squad based in Germany at the same time building up to the first competitive game of the season against Cliftonville.

Domestically Celtic will be looking to win the youth title for the fifth season running having captured last season’s u-20 title to add to the three previous u-19 championships.

As well as Daniels James Keatings and Robbie Thomson were also released at the end of last season.

Thomson is currently training with Carlisle United while Keatings is a little further afield at Brisbane Roar in Australia’s A-League.

The only other confirmed pre-season match for the Development squad is on July 21 when they travel to face Cork City at Turner’s Cross.
