David Longmuir newsAny notion that the ‘new look’ Scottish Professional Football League would bring in a new era for the game has been killed stone dead with the news of the two candidates to become chief executive.

Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir will be interviewed for the post over the next ten days in what could amount to a ‘spot the difference’ competition.

The former chief executives of the SFL and SPL are battling it out for the top job and will be questioned by the newly elected eight man board of the SPFL which includes Rod Petrie of Hibs, Eric Riley of Celtic and Billy Darroch of Stenhousemuir.

Both candidates have been heavily involved in the disastrous running of Scottish football over the last 18 months with Doncaster excelling in the art of saying lots without answering any questions.

Asked about the recruitment process the former Norwich chief said: “It’s not a question of applying for the position. There are two acting chief executives and the board will be selecting one of those to take the new league body forward.

“Interviews will take place over the next 10 days or so but that’s for the board to decide who they want to lead the organisation in future.”

For his part Longmuir said: “There will be a process over the next week or so where the newly-appointed board of the SPFL will make a decision and I will enter into that process wholeheartedly.”

The 42 club set up was finally agreed late on Thursday night after concerns from SFL clubs led by Annan Athletic were allayed.

That vote will see the Scottish Football League and the Scottish Premier League both being wound up with the SPFL emerging as the new body given the task of managing the professional game.

Why are these two the only candidates? frying pan and fire come to mind, Scotland haven’t reached a KO stage of a competition in 15 years, coincidentally during the lifetime of the SPL and these two clowns think they’re entitled to consideration to lead us further down the slippery slope, you couldnae make it up.

The biggest scandal? the silence from Celtic amongst others on the rule bending, as it looks like Sevco are now a full member yet still no accounts, squad size rules have been changed, to whose benefit? yup Sevco, the trialist rule has been amended too, to whose benefit? yup Sevco.

I can see fans drifting away in their droves. No doubt Dumb or Dumber (whichever one gets the gig) will tell one and all. that the game will be better off without them.
Only the most bigoted wee country in the world.

  • Eric Gormley says:

I Think that those two disasters Longmuir & Doncaster dead wood should be shown the door and an independent fresh face too fill the new vacancy

  • Joe says:

I cannot see how Celtic are not making a huge fuss about this. After all we fund most of the league and cannot be getting value for money from this relationship.

If ever a new face was required it is now and when will the pandering and rule bending/ breaking to accommodate Sevco end.

I have never seen such a biased organisation ever.

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

I suspect Doncaster is a Govan Club sympathiser…..
    I know for a fact…Longmuir is a Hun…..
So as long as that bastart disnae get it….

  • Jim McGregor says:

Just seen a photo of the new Hun kit,who is allowing them to have the five stars on it

The SFA run by Regan and Ogilvie, and the SPFL run by Longmuir. I can hardly wait for that. The crazies took over this asylum a long time ago.

I hope I’m way off the mark here, but with the way things have developed over the last year or so, I can’t help getting the horrible feeling that the Celtic board are just as keen to have some form of Ibrox club in the top division as our other football “leaders”. Let’s face it; it makes their jobs a lot easier.

Know what you mean para. The silence from Celtic Park is deafening. The game ceased to be funny long ago. It has now reached worrying heights yet nobody beyond Hutton seem to voice an opinion. Am saddened by the lack of spine throughout our game. Am seeing a point where my money stays in my pocket and not feeding the corrupt.

  • OZ CELT aka Davie Bhoy says:

Don’t think our board care about the moralities of the sevco issue its just business to them- sevco in spl = more revenue

Harsh but true but our board will always put financial gain over anything-else,they are hard nosed businessmen and nothing-else

If you want proper change in our game it will ONLY come with organized widespread boycotts

Withdraw our financial input and they will listen, bit dramatic I know, but everywhere you look there is no morality only money driven actions wihin our board

Do we let the businessmen have carte blanche or do we grow a pair and act?

  • Andybhoy says:

Ffs! The very thing that needs changed is the one thing that will remain exactly the same, the same old cabal will continue to run OUR game. Whether it’s the new SPFL or the SFA, it seems guys like Longmuir, Doncaster, Regan and Ogilvie to name a few, have no intention of going anywhere.

It doesn’t seem to matter that these are the very same people who over the last two years alone have compromised themselves time and time again by bending their own rulebook out of all recognition with no regard for the damage it would cause to our game, and all in the pursuit of aiding a club that showed as much respect to that rulebook as they seem to do. None whatsoever!

What a brand new league organisation needs is a brand new start, with new people at the top who have fresh ideas on the future of Scottish football. The last thing we need is the same old faces who have shown they cannot be trusted in the slightest. The fact that Longmuir, the man most determined to derail league reconstruction, has the cheek to put himself forward to run it shows that he has no shame or a shred of integrity.

If these people are allowed to retain power within Scottish football then the end result will be disastrous for the game. They are no longer trusted and the game will decline even further if the are allowed to remain.

    • paranoidandroid says:

I think everybody agrees with what your saying. I know I certainly do. But the problem is what do we do about it? We fans seem powerless without the clubs getting involved, but the clubs seem happy just to let these corrupt fools run our game.

  • Andybhoy says:

I know what your saying paranoidandroid, it seems we the fans are ignored when it comes to the major decisions concerning Scottish football.

Sometimes we forget though WE are the ones with the most power because without fans football has no purpose. Surely the fans of rival clubs want shot of this lot as much as us. The incompetency and at times down right disregard for fairness and honesty has had an adverse affect on every club in Scotland and decimated fans trust in those who run the game.

An online petition might be a start, it would gauge what fans of other clubs think regarding this particular issue. If there is a consensus reached amongst fans then they take the results of that petition to their respective clubs. It might be enough to force club chairmen into pushing for real meaningful change, rather than just a cosmetic re-branding which will ultimately change nothing.

    Hail Hail.
